A professional mold inspection includes not only sampling, but also a comprehensive visual inspection to detect issues that aren't apparent to the untrained eye.
What is it?
Mold testing is available by swab or air sample. Both types indicate what kind of spores are present. Most types of mold are black, but regardless of the color or size of the area affected, it needs to be removed immediately.
Where Does it Come From?
Mold and mildew forms from moisture penetration over time. We inspect areas with problems in the basement, crawlspaces and attic to determine the cause of the water penetration and fix it, which is just as important as cleaning the molded area.
"In 2004 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) found there was sufficient evidence to link indoor exposure to mold with upper respiratory tract symptoms, cough, and wheeze in otherwise healthy people; with asthma symptoms in people with asthma; and with hypersensitivity pneumonitis in individuals susceptible to that immune-mediated condition. The IOM also found limited or suggestive evidence linking indoor mold exposure and respiratory illness in otherwise healthy children." CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/mold/dampness_facts.htm)
What Can I Do?
Some mold is easily removable while other situations require a specialist to perform the mitigation. Never use bleach to clean mold as it releases spores into the air and can be dangerous.
