A professional mold inspection includes not only sampling but also a comprehensive visual inspection to detect issues and problems related to mold that are not apparent to most people without training in building sciences and mold inspections .
What is it?
Mold testing is available by swabs or air samples. Both tests will indicate what kind of spores are present. There are all types of mold, many of which are black in color. Regardless of the color or size of the area affected, the mold needs to be removed immediately!
Where Does it Come From?
Mold and mildew comes from moisture penetration over time. We will inspect for areas of moisture and mold problems in the basement, crawlspaces, interior areas and attic. Determining the cause of the water penetration, and fixing it is just as important as cleaning up the mold.
"In 2004 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) found there was sufficient evidence to link indoor exposure to mold with upper respiratory tract symptoms, cough, and wheeze in otherwise healthy people; with asthma symptoms in people with asthma; and with hypersensitivity pneumonitis in individuals susceptible to that immune-mediated condition. The IOM also found limited or suggestive evidence linking indoor mold exposure and respiratory illness in otherwise healthy children." CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/mold/dampness_facts.htm)
What Can I Do?
Never use bleach to clean mold. Bleach releases the mold spores into the air which makes a dangerous situation. Some mold can be easily removed by the home owner, other situations will require a specialist to perform the mitigation.
